The Bumblebee
Thought For The Day
By Gail Stephens
For those of you who knew Mary Kay personally, as you read it you can almost hear her say these word.  For those of you who did not know Mary Kay personally,  I would love to give you a touch of the Lady we all loved and respected. Mary Kay inspired each of us to strive a little more, to give a little more. Each time I have the honor to wear the Bumblebees Mary Kay gave me, I remember Mary Kay and these words. Enjoy!

The Bumblebee
By Mary Kay Ash

Years ago, Mel, my late husband, gave me a diamond bumblebee pin, and everyone loved it. Because it was so popular, I decided to present a pin like that every year to each woman who is crowned queen in each of the various categories at Seminar. The bumblebee has come to be recognized in our Company as the number one symbol of someone who has "flown to the top."

The story behind this symbol is that aerodynamic engineers found a long time ago that the bumblebee "cannot" fly because its wings are too weak and its body is too heavy. Fortunately, the bumblebee doesn’t know that and goes right on flying. I think the bumblebee is a marvelous symbol of women who don’t know they "can’t" fly and make it to the top!

So in our Company when you make it to the top, we pin one of these diamond bees on your shoulder to wear with pride. For most of us, it’s true that we refused to believe we couldn’t do it. Maybe someone said, "It’s impossible." But someone else said, "You can do it!" And we did.

Women truly are very special creatures. When God made the world He looked down and said, "That’s good." Then God created man and said, "That’s pretty good, but I think I can do better," and He created woman!
